Latynina on Litvinenko
Moscow Times columnist Yulia Latynina offers "The Lessons of Litvinenko's Death." If there is something positive coming from such a disgraceful action as the killing of Litvinenko, it is that Russians are now fully informed and aware that their government may not be serving their best interests and, more to the point, at least some in the Russian media refuse to be silenced by the killings of critics such as Anna Politskovskaya.
Even as some in the Putin regime refuse to believe that they now live in an open society, the transformation from Soviet ways is now irreversible, hopefully, and there may soon come a time when killing critics is no longer tolerated.
