John McCain and the Digital TV Transition
The television broadcast industry wants April 2009 to be the transition target date for abandoning analog video, which to me still seems really soon for everyone to adjust. John McCain wants to accelerate
the process so that first responders can have that bandwidth available sooner. If he has his way, he will basically alienate 21 million Americans who are limited to only broadcast TV, many of whom might have voted for McCain in the next presidential race. Everyone else seems to agree that the first responders and whoever else uses the new spectrum will need two years to adapt anyway.
On the bright side, I hope everyone will realize that their old TV's are still perfectly good as monitors for video games, old computers, videocassettes and DVD's. I also don't think the satellite providers will necessarily want to discontinue their service for people who would rather not get a digital TV yet.
