Iraq National Conference Creates National Council
While the top headlines in the US media outlets are focusing on John Kerry first and as-Sadr second, scant mention has been made of the National Conference that has selected an interim National Council for Iraq. Zeyad at Healing Iraq has a very detailed
overview and commentary of the proceedings.
Out of the Gate
Alan Keyes began his campaign this week, immediately rushing into a mere 12-week campaign against rising Democrat star Barack Obama. Drafted into the race by a desperate Illinois Republican party, Keyes brings issues back to the contest as the state is now assured a black senator regardless of the elction's outcome. I have a feeling the Illinois senate race may be this year's Schwarzenegger moment, a grass roots revolution of sorts.
Broadcast Freedom
Reversing their earlier decision to give in to the threats made by the DNC's lawyers, WDTN of Dayon and Springfield, Ohio will air the ad produced by Swiftboat Veterans for Truth after all. This happened during the course of Neal Boortz's morning show when outraged listeners jammed the station's phone lines to complain, partly because the lawyers' letter contained threats, misrepresentations and defamation of characters itself but mainly because the DNC is being completely inconsistent after rewarding Michael Moore with a seat next to Jimmy Carter at the convention and welcoming the efforts of MoveOn.org and its bottomless well of soft money from George Soros. To its credit, the White House has correctly asserted that all such efforts are exactly the sort of thing that the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law was supposed to discourage.
I think everyone involved will get a lesson in the wisdom of the American people in about three months' time.
