Ronald Reagan, All-American
I've been very pleased with the kind words
being said for Ronald Reagan and the reflections of his years as president. I even appreciate the statement by John Kerry
, who lately seems to be emulating the message of optimism that set Reagan apart from his predecessors. Just a few minutes ago I found one of those honorary inaugural invitations, the ones that always arrive on January 21st, for the second Reagan inauguration in 1985. I will always feel Reagan came along at the right time in history, including my own as his terms spanned my middle and high school years through my first year of college. From hearing our principal at school tell our bus driver of the shooting in 1981 to watching the live television coverage of Reagan's plane taking off from Washington in 1989, I clearly remember the times and the changes they brought. Like Elvis Presley was to entertainment, we might never know another figure quite like Reagan in our lifetimes.
